REQUIREMENTS FOR A
MARRIAGE LICENSE/CIVIL UNION/DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP
The application process takes approximately twenty minutes and the following are required:

Proof of residency of the Applicants consist of a current photo ID driver’s license with Clifton Address or a Photo ID without address and one additional form of ID with Clifton Address OR two alternate forms of ID with address such as non-photo driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance card, voter registration, County ID, School ID, or Utility bill, telephone bill or cable television bill.
- Certified copies of birth certificates of both parties, in English or so translated. The translation must be typed and duly signed and notarized. Also, the original document of the birth record or the birth certificate is required.
- If either applicant was in Marriage, Civil Union or Domestic Partnership prior to applying a copy of the final court judgement is needed. If by death, a certified copy of the death certificate is required.
- Social Security cards for both parties
· Appointments for obtaining a Marriage License/Civil Union/Domestic Partnership can be scheduled by calling Barbara at 973-470-5825 during our normal business hours. Applications are taken on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- The Applicants & one English Speaking Witness must apply in person. If a translator is needed the Witness must translate.

There is a three (3) day waiting period for the marriage/civil union license. You are responsible for making your own arrangements with a Religious Officiant, County Clerk, or Superior Court Judge. The main County phone number is 973-881-4000.You must provide us with the date, time and the name of the person that is performing the ceremony.
NOTE: IF 72 HOUR TIME FRAME CANNOT BE MET, APPLICANT HAS TO RECEIVE A WAIVER OF TIME FROM THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE, HAMILTON STREET, PATERSON, NEW JERSEY
