Clifton Receives JAG Grant
August 17, 2009 Clifton, NJ: City Manager Albert Greco, announced today that the City of Clifton has received $111,000 under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. The federal United States Department of Justice program is named for Edward Byrne, a fallen New York City Police Officer, who was killed in the line of duty at the age of 22.
City Manager Greco, remarking on the receipt of these funds said, “The City of Clifton is honored to accept these funds on behalf of a fallen hero. Our Police Department respects the underlying meaning of these funds and will benefit tremendously by this allocation.”
The Clifton Police Department will use the funds to enhance its community patrol capabilities and its public safety communications capacities. According to Greco, “We are now able to fund a position that would otherwise have been funded due to budgetary restrictions. Additionally, the support will allow the Police Departments to maintain and complete functionality of the City’s 9-1-1 dispatch and communications system.”
The JAG program will enhance the Police Department’s efficiency and productivity as well as safeguard public safety and the well-being of the Clifton community.
The application for this grant was coordinated with the Clifton Police Department by Bruno Associates, Inc. a Clifton grant consulting firm. For additional information about Officer Edward Byrne and JAG, please visit the website: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/BJA/about/officer-byrne.html
