Fire Department - Mission Statement

To improve and safeguard the quality of life within the City of Clifton, the members of the Clifton Fire Department guarantee to the citizens and visitors of Clifton that we will provide dependable service in a responsible fashion, while showing care and compassion for those in need. As public servants, our first and foremost duty is to serve the community. We will treat those we serve fairly, regardless of their race, color, creed, sex, age, lifestyle, national origin or economic status. We also insure that any service we provide adds value to our citizens/customers quality of life. We also recognize the individuality of everyone who works here. We will treat one another with respect, kindness and a sense of importance of teamwork. We should foster a spirit of excellence throughout the organization so that we may better serve our citizens.

The Clifton Fire Department serves the community by performing the following essential services:
•Fire Suppression
•Emergency Medical Services: vehicle and industrial extrication
•Fire Prevention Services: building inspections, code enforcement, plan review, public fire safety education
•Hazardous Materials Intervention

The Clifton Fire Department’s forecast for the future is to expand the delivery of and improve fire ground efficiency through:

Enhance Emergency Medical Services By Incorporating a 3rd Ambulance on Full-Time Duty
Broaden Public Fire Safety Education

Enhance the Hazardous Materials Response Program by:

•Increasing the number of certified Hazardous Materials Technicians
•Expand Hazardous Materials Training
•Install Computer Terminals in All Fire Stations
•Replace All of the Department’s Current Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus With New State of the Art Units
•Outsource Ambulance Transport Billing to a Private Vendor
•Purchase New Fire Apparatus – Replace Current Engine #6 With a New Pumper or Quint
•Construct New Fire Station to Replace Fire Station #1, Located on Madison Avenue & First Street
•Replace Ambulances 88 & 89 With New Type III Units
