ATTENTION ALL SENIOR CITIZENS AGES 60+
Senior citizens aged 60+ are invited to participate in Recreation Department sponsored classes in this brochure and receive a $10.00 discount on each class you register for. Take advantage and join us for some fun!
LINE DANCING
If you like line dancing to a variety of music genres, come to the Community Recreation Center and learn the latest steps in line dancing. Classes are ongoing every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Beginner and intermediate teen and adult dancers are welcome. $1.00 donation per class.
BREAKDANCING
Program designed for teens & adults who enjoy breakdancing. Come practice and dance-off against other breakers on select Monday evenings from 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. Contact the Recreation Department for the Winter/Spring schedule. Admission is $2.00 each week. Registration is required upon first visit (participants under 18 must have guardian signature on the form).
WALK & TALK THURSDAYS
Join the Clifton Recreation Department every Thursday in front of City Hall beginning 5:30 p.m. for a 2 – 3-mile stroll through town. Walk, talk, and meet friends. Now is the time to get fit, get healthy and simply get moving. Program is free. For more information contact the Recreation Department.
TEEN OPEN BASKETBALL
This ongoing program is for Clifton Students ages 13 – 17 (18 if still in high school) at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on select Friday Evenings through May 17th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. You can access the 2012 – 2013 schedule online at www.cliftonnj.org/content/recreation-tob.html. Register at the Recreation Department. All participants must be Clifton Residents and enrolled in school.
SELF-DEFENSE
Age(s) 15 + Male or Female
There are many techniques for defending specific attacks, including escaping from grips and chokes, defenses against punches, kicks and weapons and floor-fighting. This 8-week class can teach you how to size up a situation and react. Limit: 16 per class.

CROSS COUNTRY AND FITNESS PROGRAM
Age(s) 6 – 14
This program is designed for boys and girls who are seriously interested in learning about track and field. No tryouts will take place. All are welcome. Program will include sprints, hurdles, relays and distance races. Parents will receive information from the coach throughout the program on independent meets that youth can participate in for a nominal fee. Instruction conducted by Coach Joel Pasternack. Limit: 30 per class.

TURKISH CUISINE
Teens & Adults
This class is designed to introduce exquisite world known dishes from the Turkish cuisine. During this six week program, the instructor will demonstrate the recipes for 12 delicious cold appetizers. Some of those recipes are hundreds of years old. The students will participate in cooking and eat together as a group at the end of each class. The participants will be able to make these simple but very healthy foods easily at home, share and enjoy with their family and friends. Limit: 10 per class.

SPRING “GET UP AND GO” WALKING PROGRAM
Adults & Seniors
Love to walk and get energized for the day, then join us as we “get up and go,” strolling through the Athenia Steel Recreation Complex on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Enjoy a peaceful and stress-free walk without lots of noise and traffic to interrupt you around the park’s path. Staff will be on hand to give exercise tips and advice if needed.

FITNESS BOOTCAMP
Adults
6-week class designed for men and women who want to start their day right with an intense 60 minute workout combining cardio, strength training, stretching and more. Before you go to work, drop the kids off to school, or delve into the stresses of day-to-day life, join us and begin to tone, tighten and get in great shape. Participants must bring a mat and water bottle to classes. Limit: 12 per class.

STAY FIT & STAY IN SHAPE

This 6-week class is a combination of cardio- kickboxing, toning, weight-lifting, yoga & pilates for both men and women. Program will focus on abs, arms, glutes, hips & thighs. Help get rid of extra pounds and stay in shape while improving strength, fitness, flexibility & coordination. Limit: 12 per class.

SENIOR SING-ALONG
Seniors
Join fellow Cliftonite Greg Baron for a FREE afternoon of musical entertainment. Enjoy a variety of musical standards that will have you singing and dancing the afternoon away as you remember the good ole’ days.

CHILD/INFANT CPR & PEDIATRIC FIRST AID
Adults
This course will certify students in child and infant CPR for children aged 12 and under as well as pediatric first aide. Participants will learn how to recognize an emergency, protecting yourself and minimizing the risk of disease transmission, the emergency action steps (check-call-care), how to care for a child or infant who is choking, prioritizing care, recognizing and care for a child or infant who is not breathing and cardiac emergencies. Participants receive a first aide overview tailored specifically to infants and children. Participants must attend both classes. Limit: 12 per class.

ADULT CPR, AED & FIRST AID
Teens & Adults
American Red Cross certification course combines lecture, interactive video demonstrations featuring emergency scenarios that are likely to occur in a variety of environments and hands-on training to teach participants lifesaving skills. Learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults and how to use automatic external defibrillators. First Aid: Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts and scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies. Participants must attend all three classes. Limit: 12 per class.

GETTING PAID TO TALK
Teens & Adults
Explore the profession of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books, documentaries and the internet. Workshop covers the basics including preparing a demo, and successfully earning great income in this field. Students have the opportunity to ask questions and hear demos recorded by professional voice actors. Participants will also record a commercial script under the direction of the coach producer. Limit: 24 per class.

COACHES CERTIFICATION
Teens & Adults
Course designed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for individuals wishing to become certified as youth coaches. The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. clinic is based upon the “Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation & Training Skills Program. Pre-registration is required. Limit: 25 per class. IM=X PILATES
Teens & Adults
IM=X stands for Integrated Movement Xercize. Join us and sculpt your body in this specialized program, blending specific stabilization, strengthening and flexibility exercises inspired by the Pilates Method. Focuses on the basics of alignment, breath and technique, this challenging full-body conditioning class will emphasize a balanced approach and will enhance postural awareness. Please bring your own pilates/yoga mat. Limit: 20 per class.

DANCE FIT

Join us for an invigorating workout that Jane Fonda would have been proud of! This 6-week class combines all the classic tunes you love, with fun workout sessions featuring all different styles of dance including: contemporary, belly, latin, hip hop, jazz, ballet and much more. But if you love to dance as much as we do, this really won’t feel like a workout! Limit: 12 per class.

CARDIO-KICKBOXING

This 6-week class is designed to help you burn calories and use muscles that you do not use during everyday activities. Cardio-kickboxing classes begin with light stretching and warm-up exercises. Then the instructor will guide you through numerous punch-kick combinations to keep your body warm and active to fun music. Engage in a new way to burn calories and lose weight. Limit: 12 per class.

Classes meet for 1 hour, once a week for 6-weeks beginning Saturday, April 27th, Sunday, April 28th and Tuesday, April 30th. Prices are $55.00 for Beginner & Adv. Beginner, $65.00 for Intermediate 1 and $85.00 for Intermediate 2 (non-residents add $10.00). Loaner racquets available (juniors 1st lesson only). Instruction by Tennis Dynamics. AARP 55 ALIVE / MATURE DRIVING PROGRAM

6-hour refresher course designed to meet the needs of older drivers. Students will update driving knowledge and skills, learn to prevent traffic crashes and violations, maintain mobility and independence. NATURE HIKE-GARRET MOUNTAIN
Adults
Explore Garret Mountain Reservation, one of several National Natural landmarks in New Jersey, during this 2.5 hour hike. This is the county's major recreational area. Since the park is an oasis of woodland surrounded by urbanity, Garret Mountain is a migrant trap for migrating song birds. Enjoy the serenity. Participants must pack a lunch and wear sturdy shoes. Transportation is required. Meeting place will be determined closer to the hike. Limit: 20 per hike.

NATURE HIKE-EAGLE ROCK
Adults
Explore Eagle Rock Reservation, 408 acres of hills, streams, and valleys located on the borders of West Orange, Verona and Montclair, New Jersey for this 2.5 hour hike. Though located in the middle of the most densely populated county in the most densely populated state in the country, the Reservation is mostly undeveloped and boasts an extensive trail system within its borders. Enjoy nature at its best. Participants must pack a lunch and wear sturdy shoes. Transportation will be provided from Clifton City Hall (leaving 9:30 a.m. – returning approximately 1 p.m.).
