The open hockey sessions are designed to provide the hockey enthusiast an opportunity to participate in a supervised hockey game without being in an organized league. There are scheduled days and times for various age groups, from youth to adults. Sessions are limited to the first 30 participants to attend and the cost is $1.00 for youth and $2.00 for adults. Goalies and all Gold Members are free. Participants are required to wear full gear, including a mouthpiece, and all standard rules and regulations apply. Sessions are conducted at the Skatezone.
Limited times are available for rental of the Skatium and the Chelsea Park Rink by outside organizations. All groups interested in rink rental must submit a permit request form with the Recreation Department. The cost is $50.00 for an hour and a half.
This program is for youth ages 9 — 17. At the present time, we conduct 2 seasons, lasting 6 — 10 weeks each, once in the spring and again in the fall. Games are played on Sundays (make-up games on Mondays) at the Skatezone and Chelsea Park Rink and volunteer coaches run the teams. The fee is $25.00 per person for Clifton residents and $35.00 per person for non-residents. All players must wear all the required safety gear. The Recreation Department has sticks, helmets and goalie gear to loan to team players; mouthpieces can be purchased for $1.00. We have plans in the future to organize an adult league.
The Clifton Recreation Department is once again seeking to join a competitive out-of-town roller hockey league. As soon as we find the right league for our program, we will distribute information, so that interested players will be able to try out for the team.
The Clifton Recreation Department will be starting a competitive roller hockey league at the Skatezone. We are looking for 6 teams to begin our Inaugural Skatezone Roller Hockey League season. This league will be using a puck for competition. Teams must be composed of youths ages 12 — 14 (as of the date of the first game), and can carry between 11 — 16 players on their roster. The season will consist of 10 games, with the top 4 teams making the playoffs. The fee is $600.00 per team and roster must be returned with the fee. Single player entries will not be accepted, only team registrations.
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports designed this course for individuals wishing to become certified as youth coaches. The Rutgers' S.A.F.T.Y. There is a $35.00 fee for all books and materials. A certified instructor conducts the course in a 3-hour class. Pre-registration is required. Call for details or obtain a registration form here.
