All About Roller Hockey

HOCKEY RULES!

Clifton…A Hockey Town:

In the Spring of 1998, the Clifton Recreation Department decided to incorporate roller hockey into our program. We started the program inside of one of our tennis courts. But from the start, the program had great success. With talented referees and staff, dedicated volunteer coaches and a group of kids that were eager to learn and compete, we ventured forward. In 2001, we got our first, full-sized, hockey rink — the Chelsea Park Rink and now in 2002 we have opened our second site, the Skatium, at the Clifton Skatezone. We now conduct in-town leagues, instructional programs, hockey birthday parties, coaches' certification classes, and open hockey.  We will soon be adding hockey camps, tournaments, a traveling hockey team and more.

Registering for Classes, Camps and Leagues:

All participants must pre-register with the Clifton Recreation Department. Registration can be conducted through the mail, walk in or after hours drop off at the Clifton Recreation Office, 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey 07013. Office hours are Monday from 8:15 a.m. — 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Registration is on a first come, first served basis so early registration is strongly recommended. Program fees must be paid at the time of registration (cash, check or money order made payable to the Clifton Recreation Department). A copy of the registration form may be obtained here. Enrolled participants should attend the first class as scheduled — confirmations will not be mailed to you.

Refund Policy and Program Cancellation:

If a class is full or cancelled by the Recreation Department, a full refund will be issued. If a participant is requesting to drop out of a program, they must submit the request in writing three business days before the program begins, a $5.00 service charge will be issued. Refunds will not be issued once the program begins. The Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any program due to insufficient registration or other causes, which may affect the health, safety or welfare of the program participants. Every effort will be made to notify registrants of program cancellation. If schools are closed due to inclement weather, all daytime programs will be canceled until 5:00 p.m. The decision to conduct evening programs will be made by 4:00 p.m. To find out the status of evening programs call (973) 470-5680.

Traveling Hockey Team

The Clifton Recreation Department is once again seeking to join a competitive out-of-town roller hockey league. As soon as we find the right league for our program, we will distribute information, so that interested players will be able to try out for the team.

Skatezone Roller Hockey League

The Clifton Recreation Department will be starting a competitive roller hockey league at the Skatezone. We are looking for 6 teams to begin our Inaugural Skatezone Roller Hockey League season. This league will be using a puck for competition. Teams must be composed of youths ages 12 — 14 (as of the date of the first game), and can carry between 11 — 16 players on their roster. The season will consist of 10 games, with the top 4 teams making the playoffs. The fee is $600.00 per team and roster must be returned with the fee. Single player entries will not be accepted, only team registrations.
